About me

I learned to knit when I was about 10 years old. I always loved the rhythm and repetition. I didn’t know anyone who knitted from patterns and found them impossible to understand. There was no internet in those days, so the only place to get help was a yarn store, and I found them intimidating, so I knitted my own ideas.

When I was about 6 I created my first design of sorts. I attached a shopping bag handle to the binding of my brownie book, to make it easier to carry to Brownie meetings after school. It was a somewhat unsuccessful first proto since the pages flared and flapped while I carried it, but it was a realization of my own innovation nevertheless, and the feeling of that thrilled me.

I get the same feeling now, all these years later, when I create my one-of-a-kind knitted pieces. They are each something I have never done before, and I create with the curiosity of whether my idea is feasible and how it will develop. I love to play with unusual construction, out of the ordinary silhouettes, accentuating or diminishing aspects of the wearer’s body, and I love pattern, color and design. For me sweaters can be a lively novelty item for the wearer, invigorating an otherwise functional outfit.

My love of knitting eventually developed into a career  in the fashion industry. I designed the knitwear for the Lizwear line at Liz Claiborne in NYC, travelling to Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan to work with factories, and was lucky enough to continue my career designing for sportswear companies in LA, Sausalito and Toronto.

While I am knitting my way through to the culmination of a design idea, I usually get a new idea to pursue for the next one. When one is completed, I dive in to the next one with a minimal plan, allowing the idea to unfold as I knit, rip out and reknit. And so it goes, one of a kind, one after another.

If you see something you like and want one in a different size or color, let me know. I have notes on everything and I am happy to do custom work.
